Viewed from above, the Tara is a narrow turquoise ribbon that winds through eastern Montenegro. This river, which meanders for about 150 kilometres through a remote, almost mystical mountain landscape of limestone, has carved the deepest gorge in Europe. The dense forests here are home to animal species that have long since disappeared elsewhere in Europe. The people who live and work here have a close connection to the river: Dragan the forester, a professional high diver, sister Marina, or the ranger of the Durmitor National Park.
