The AKC – the Alpine Kayak Club – has always been a committed, passionate promoter of extreme whitewater rafting. Even in its early days, the club pioneered safety standards that still apply today. Prominent members such as Walter Frentz, Jochen Schweizer and Schorschi Schauf, among other eccentric, crazy and at times somewhat narcissistic kayakers – helped shape the AKC. Founded in 1972, the club’s history is full of ups and downs, tall stories, wild meetings and spectacular firsts.
