In June 1986, Patrick Gabarrou and Hervé Bouvard opened the “Directissime de la Pointe Walker” on the Grandes Jorasses north face. At a height of 1200 m, this wall is notoriously difficult, and nobody has tried it in 27 years. Over five days in February 2023, the three French mountaineers Charles Dubouloz, Symon Welfringer and Clovis Paulin attempt a winter ascent and the first ever free climb of this deepfreeze route.
