At the Koralm in Styria, plans to construct large-scale pumped-storage power plant has sparked off public resistance. As well as being a designated landscape conservation area and home to rare native species of animals, the mountain range is also a domestic water reservoir for the surrounding regions. In the conflict of interests between project tenderers, nature conservationists and citizens’ initiatives, the project ended up in court, where the number of planning errors discovered are mounting.
