One word, above all, defines Vietnam’s fauna: unique. It´s home to many animal species that are found nowhere else on Earth, like the low loris, the binturong and the Owston’s palm civet. The highly endangered pangolins require protection, as humans are claiming ever more land for their own purposes, displacing the animals and endangering their existence. As civilisation encroaches on the wilderness, the animals find themselves trapped. For now, some refuges remain: remote, untamed habitats, like north Vietnam’s enigmatic high-altitude rainforests.
