Multimediavortrag Thomas Ulrich: “Horizont Nord”

Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far they can go.

What makes people like Thomas Ulrich different from most other people? They don’t just dream, they live their dreams. For Thomas Ulrich, there is no โ€œI would like to, I should, I would actually like to…โ€ Ulrich doesn’t waste any time. He achieves, what he wants.

This ambition allows him to climb the highest mountains and cross the Patagonian ice sheet. In 2006, he becomes the first person to attempt a solo crossing of the North Pole from Siberia to Canada โ€“ and fails. Under dramatic circumstances, Ulrich has to be rescued off the coast of Siberia. The following year, he is already back in the Arctic: following in the footsteps of Fridtjof Nansen from the North Pole to Norway โ€“ 1,400 km on foot, swimming and by kayak.

But Ulrich is not only an adventurer, he is also one of the world’s best outdoor photographers and cinematographers. He worked as a cameraman for the feature film Nordwand, documented an Everest ascent for Swiss television, and published several articles in the American National Geographic Magazine, which also named him โ€œAdventurer of the Yearโ€ for his 2007 Arctic expedition.

Ulrich combines the skills of an extreme mountaineer and climber with an outstanding eye for scenes, moments, and moods like no other. The result is spectacular nature shots, breathtaking action scenes, and fascinating film sequences that take the audience right to the heart of the action, into the subjective world and perspective of the adventurer himself.

Ulrich gives a fascinating insight into his unique experiences on the ice and his passion for constantly setting out on new adventures. Afterwards, you are left with the feeling that anything is possible if you really want .
