Seventy-two-year-old Franco Baudino has lived all his life up in the Piedmont valleys. His heart belongs to the Elva basin, in “Maira’s Valley”, one of the wildest and most fascinating valleys in that northern region of Italy. Franco shows the amazing mountains where he lives, explains his choice to become a man of the mountains, his special bond with their inhabitants and his love for the environment. While leading us along mountain paths and past ancient rock inscriptions, Franco tells anecdotes from the region. Although sad about deserted villages, he plans to remain here for the rest of his days, in this place which his generation seems to have abandoned. And yet, Franco is optimistic about the mountains’ future, sure that they will one day be populated again.
