The news is full of doom and gloom: Forests are burning, pristine habitats are being destroyed. But there is hope, as people around the world are fighting tooth and nail to halt forest dieback. We travel to the African Sahel, the location of a battle to stem the expansion of the desert. On Brazil’s Atlantic coast, where large expanses of pristine rainforest are still in good health, the inhabitants grow new plants with the aim of reforesting ravaged areas. And on Borneo, efforts to plant new trees to protect endangered orangutans are under way.
