In the area where Croatia, Serbia and Hungary’s borders meet lies an almost unknown jewel: the Kopački Rit, a huge floodplain and one of Europe’s best-preserved wetlands. Where the Drava merges with the Danube, the Amazon of Europe begins. The Kopački Rit, with its remarkable biodiversity is only the heart of a much larger floodplain: The Mura-Drava-Danube biosphere reserve, which, straddling national borders, is administered by five countries. Szabolcs Mosonyi and Erika Bagladi spent three years portraying the diverse nature of this watery world and the dynamics of its ecosystem.
