More  than half a century after the first cable car station on Styria’s highest mountain, the Dachstein, was built, it was time for change. With the times and the climate changing, novel concepts and ideas were needed to construct the new mountaintop station, which also houses a café and restaurant for visitors to the 2700 metre high peak on Styria’s border with Upper Austria. Though built in record time between September 2023 and May 2024, the Bergstation 2.0 was designed to last as many decades as its predecessor. Boasting 160 tonnes of steel and 600 m² of photovoltaic façade, the project represents Austria’s highest construction site and an extraordinary feat of engineering.
